Aloft Philadelphia Downtown Hotel

Philadelphia, PA

Standing at the corner of Broad and Arch Streets in downtown Philadelphia, the former Liberty Title & Trust Company Building is a twenty-story landmark of 1920s office tower design. In 2015, Powers & Company was hired to guide the rehabilitation of the building into the Aloft Philadelphia Downtown Hotel through the Federal Historic Tax Credit process.

After years without maintenance, the damaged exterior masonry – including limestone, brick, and ornate terra cotta flourishes – was carefully restored, ensuring the stability of the building envelope for decades to come. Inside, the grandeur of the former banking space – now the hotel lobby – was revealed in sensitive restoration work. Original marble floors and balustrades were repaired and the impressive height of the space was fully maintained, creating a dramatic focal point and gathering space in this welcome addition to Philadelphia’s hotel scene. On the upper floors, alterations undertaken in the 1990s were removed and 179 modern guest rooms and suites were built, creating a convenient base for visitors to the adjacent Pennsylvania Convention Center.
